NTE MIMOSA MAKES
BEAUTIFUL LEATHER POSSIBLE
The practice of veg-tanning stretches back to antiquity. The discovery of concentrated tannin in mimosa in the mid-19th Century revolutionised leather production and continues to play an ever important role today.
Natural, sustainable and renewable, NTE Mimosa is the secret behind truly exceptional leather.
Native to Australia Acacia Mearnsii, commonly known as the black wattle, is a fast growing legume that has unique properties and a wide array of applications in leather tanning and retannage, as well as in a host of other industries.
In 1997, a consortium of growers purchased NTE from Mondi Forests, making owners of the people who grow its raw materials.
Today, NTE is owned by some 700 growers, comprising corporate, medium, and small-scale growers. The small and community-based growers are supported by NTE’s Forestry Development Officer who provides extension services and support to these growers.
